KEEPING THE
PARTY GREEN
Every event generates some waste, but that doesn’t mean that these items have to go to waste.
Take a look at how The Décor Room recycles or repurposes everything from plastic bottle tops to candles:
FLOWERS
Excess florals are donated to St. John’s Catholic Church. If flowers cannot be donated, they’re turned into compost on The Farm which is run The Imagination Plan in Ruimsig, owned by Hilary Moore.
Fruit & Vegetables
Any edible items used for décor purposes are donated to the Care Group at St. John’s Catholic Church.
Ink Cartridges & Paper
All ink cartridges are returned to Hewlett Packard for recycling while any paper that’s partially or incorrectly printed is used for scrap before being sent on to a recycling company.
Plastic & Glass
These items are collected, cleaned and dropped off for recycling. Some of it goes to the Owl Box project where it is used in the manufacture of nesting boxes for owls. Plastic bottle tops are also collected and donated to a charity that raises funds specifically for purchasing wheelchairs.
Candles
Partially used candles are donated to a retirement home.
Carpeting
Excess carpeting is donated to animal shelters for use in their kennels.
Various Items
Any other suitable décor items are donated to an underprivileged nursery school in Honeydew.
